Fabulous Food in the English Lake District
We love food – it is our passion. You can hardly blame us given we’re lucky enough to live in such a fabulous location for local produce. This week we have been chatting to our fabulous team to uncover the top 5 reasons why we’re such foodies… warning, you may need a snack to get through this blog…
1. Talking all Things Food in the Lake District
Every single member of our team can often be heard discussing foodie delights. Whether it’s our Head Chef Paul, Sous chefs, the fabulous bar team, the housekeeping team, our brilliant waiters and waitresses… everyone. We’ll discuss how good those fresh scones out the oven smelled, or how tasty the sirloin looks and how beautifully the Afternoon Tea is presented. There is much to discuss as over the past 50 years hoteliers across the Lake District have been instrumental in shaping Cumbria gastronomy. From Francis Coulson at Sharrow Bay in the 1970s, who invented Sticky Toffee pudding, to the numerous fine establishments we find today Cumbria is a dream come true for foodies.
At Storrs Hall we love to let the natural flavours from local ingredients speak for themselves, and those flavours are truly wonderful…….
2. Lovely and local
Windermere Char, Morecambe Bay shrimps, Kendal Mint Cake, Grasmere Gingerbread, Sticky toffee pudding and of course The Cumberland Sausage. The list is long and endlessly tasty. Our fantastic chefs focus on using local ingredients. Our fish comes from the north of Lancashire port of Fleetwood and our lamb from the Cumbria fells on our doorstep. This year we shall also be growing our own herbs.
There’s no need to venture further when ingredients of such quality are so close to home. Our chefs stunning creations work to enhance the natural flavours, resulting in a range of truly delicious dishes.
3. A Sweet and Stunning Landscape
Like the landscape, traditional dishes like The Cumberland Sausage and Sticky toffee pudding were bold and rugged. These dishes have been refined by chefs across the region and we’re proud to say survive not only to this day, but continue to be firm favourites across the country.
4. Hearty Perfection
We offer two main dining options here at Storrs Hall, the Tower Bar and the Restaurant. The Tower Bar offers a more relaxed dining option, the menu featuring a number of those firm local favourites including the Cumberland Sausage and Rib eye steak. While the restaurant offers our à la carte menu that changes with the seasons, to be enjoyed with stunning views of Lake Windermere and the surround Lake District fells. Here at Storrs Hall we’re big believers in exceptional service – something we pride ourselves on. But we don’t like the stuffiness. Being such foodies ourselves, we strive to offer our guests the perfect location, setting and service, creating a truly unique environment in which to unwind and relax.
5. Elegant Dining in the Lake District
We treasure the tradition of elegant dining. There’s nothing quite like taking your time, enjoying a glass of your favourite wine, while dressing for dinner. Indulging in those pre dinner drinks before settling in at your table for an evening of culinary delights. We believe dining out should still be enjoyed for the elegant art form that it is and we’re truly proud to offer an elegant service to match the beauty of our surroundings.
So there you have it. Our top five reasons for being such foodies here in the heart of the Lake District. If you’re looking to ignite those taste buds and indulge in some truly delightful dishes, find more information about our restaurant, The Tower Bar and Afternoon Tea here.
