Meet Fred Milando, our Front of House Manager, and a long-standing member of the team at Storrs Hall. As many of you will know Fred is passionate about looking after our guests, and ensuring that their experience is unforgettable. Here he tells us more about his role and the favourite parts of his job.
Q. How long have you being working at Storrs Hall?
A. I joined Storrs Hall in 2007 – so almost 12 years now, and I have seen many exciting changes since I joined the team.
Q. Tell us more about your role as Front of House Manager
A. My role includes making sure that customer expectations are met. I also meet and greet guests on arrival, before seeing them off on the day of departure. My job also involves ensuring that the team is aware of any extra details that require action prior to the guests’ arrival.
Q. What is your favourite part of the job?
A. My favourite part is working with a team who are committed to providing excellent customer service. It is also an honour to help guests arrange special surprises for their loved ones.
Q. What is the most interesting part of your job?
I am very interested in the history of Storrs Hall and the surrounding area, and on special occasions give conducted tours of the property. Storrs Hall’s Georgian architecture is fascinating, drawing visitors and guests back to us time and time again.
I also love meeting new guests and have had the pleasure of meeting so many interesting people over the years.
Q. What attracted you to working at Storrs Hall?
I’ve always wanted to work at Storrs Hall; particularly since I visited for afternoon tea many years ago. With years of tradition behind it, Storrs Hall has values and missions that I admire. For example, it’s a place that promotes equality and cares about the development of its employees. Additionally, the very name ‘Storrs Hall’ is associated with luxury, comfort and quality. Storrs Hall is succeeding in its aim of attracting visitors through its friendly, attentive staff and beautiful surrounding countryside – a reputation that I take pride in being part of.
Q. What makes Storrs Hall unique?
The setting of Storrs Hall and its surroundings can’t be compared to any other; with the beauty of the lake and extensive lawns adding a touch of magic to the iconic scenery. The building itself is representative of both Georgian and Victorian architecture, and has special details when observed closely.
We’re also home to the Tower Bar – a wonderfully ornate bar that was originally installed in the famous Blackpool Tower before coming to Storrs Hall.
The bedrooms are all very contemporary, having been recently refurbished. I really like the fact that they are all different. Additionally, our two AA rosette Lake Edge Restaurant has continued to excel in delivering exceptional food flavours, and is not to be missed during a visit to the lakes.
Q. Why should people visit Storrs Hall?
Visitors can appreciate the extensive lakeshore grounds. There are 17 acres to explore and the views are stunning, particularly from the Temple of Heroes and the jetty. Guests can also enjoy the dining experience in our restaurant, or have a casual meal at the Tower Bar. When the sun shines afternoon tea on the terrace is a wonderful experience. Relax and watch the boats sail by on the lake.
Storrs Hall is also a must-visit for literary enthusiasts. The author Beatrix Potter, who lived in Lake District, used to visit the hotel. We’re also famous for once having had the pleasure of William Wordsworth reciting his famous work, I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud, here. To stay at Storrs Hall is to experience history!
