The Lake District is full of culture, adventure, world class entertainment, exceptional food, festivals and so much more. It’s not all sheep and hills. We promise.
That’s not to say we don’t adore our stunning landscape… there’s nothing more stunning than the sun setting on Lake Windermere… even more stunning when enjoyed with a glass of your favourite tipple from our bar.
The Lake District is full of fabulous days out, things to do and places to explore so in this week’s blog we thought we would share some of our favourites with you.
1. Windermere Lake Cruises
Offering a wide range of cruises and from as little as £8.30, Windermere Lake Cruises is a must visit. A few minutes from our front door, you can be sailing along England’s largest Lake, enjoying the breathtaking views of the surrounding Lake District fells. Sail along the lake and alight before heading off on one of the many stunning trails and walks in the region or add entry to an attraction as a bolt on to your ticket.
2. Explore Beatrix Potter’s Lake District
We’re lucky enough to have the top two Beatrix Potter attractions in the world right here on our doorstep. Our guests can enjoy the unique and official World of Beatrix Potter and visit her stunning home at Hill Top which is filled with historical treasures.
The wonderful world of Beatrix Potter is a completely unique attraction, visited by thousands each year from across the globe. It takes around an hour to enjoy your self guided tour of the exhibitions and garden, plus a little extra time to enjoy the delightful gift shop and tea room, (we recommend the tasty cakes!). A fabulous day out for all ages.
Hill Top farm offers a time capsule of Beatrix Potter’s life. A truly unique experience in which visitors can immerse themselves. Full of Beatrix’s favourite things it is as if the home has been fixed in time – a fabulous attraction to be enjoyed by all fans of this wonderful author.
3. The Old Laundry Theatre
We are very proud of this superb theatre, which is located just 10 minutes away from Storrs in Bowness-on-Windermere. You can enjoy a fabulous array of drama, classical music, folk, comedy, lectures and film. Find their upcoming listings here.
4. Blackwell The Arts and Craft House
Architect MH Baillie Scott originally built Blackwell as a holiday home for his client Sir Edward Holt. The stunning home which overlooks Windermere, now offers guests a lovingly crafted day out. Blackwell retains many of its original features, perfectly capturing the Arts and Crafts movement of the twentieth century. The historical house features various collections and exhibitions all year around to suit all design and artistic tastes. Find more information on their website here.
5. Mountain Goat Tours
Touring the Lake District fells since 1972, Mountain Goat Tours offers a superb range of guided explorations to be enjoyed from the comfort of one of their tour buses. Taking you off the beaten track, guests can enjoy the ‘Ten Lakes Spectacular’, ‘High Adventure’ and the ‘Beatrix Potter’s favourite countryside’ tours plus many more.
Remember, our fabulous team here at Storrs Hall are local experts and can recommend many more great places to explore, things to do and wonderful days out. Have a question? Message us on Facebook here or call the team here to arrange your stay.
